Rob Bunker
Rob Bunker was back on track March 6, testing the Velocity Motorsports Pro Formula Mazda at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga. The Bridgewater, N.J., driver eased back into race mode before a three-track test in his new ARCA RE/MAX Series car, scheduled for early April.

"We had a few things we wanted to accomplish, mostly on high-speed portions of the track. That made Road Atlanta a great track to test at," Bunker said. "We wanted to try a few things in the Mazda that would translate to the ARCA series, like trying to get back to full throttle sooner, being assertive with the throttle pedal, trying to carry a whole lot of speed into a corner. Definitely being in other forms of motorsports helps whatever you're doing."

The newly paved 2.54-mile road course, combined with the team's strong car setup, gave Bunker, Velocity driver James Davison and Formula BMW USA driver Yannick Hofman some fast laps.

Velocity team principal Price Cobb was impressed with the drivers' performance.

"We were the fastest cars on track and that's always a good feeling!"

"It was a pleasure to see how the winter's preparation and investment in people and time came to fruition during our test at Road Atlanta. Better yet it was wonderful to work with three outstanding up-and-coming drivers who were record-pace quick without ever putting a wheel wrong," he said.

Lead engineer Pete Mercier added, "Rob really surprised me with his speed and feedback. I have not worked with him before and was pleasantly surprised. I hope we get to work together in the future."

"It was a completely new chassis to me, but I went out and posted the best times I've ever posted at that track," Bunker enthused. "The setup was new to me, but it was tried and tested by Velocity and their engineers. It ended up being something I really liked. We spent about a half an hour going over what the car should do before I even set foot in it, just to make sure I absolutely knew what to expect. They had a lot of background knowledge about the car and about engineering in general."

"We were the fastest cars on track and that's always a good feeling!"
