Cunningham Motorsports was originally founded as CSG Racing in 1996. The C was for Briggs Cunningham, the S for Kerry Scherer, and the G for Mark Gibson.

CSG racing ran 3 years with great success in ARCA. The Team registered 3 top 5 points finishes, won a speedway championship, and was a threat to win each week. During this time they also ran in the Craftsman Truck Series and in the Winston cup on a limited basis.

Cunningham MotorsportsIn 2000 the team moved from Winder, Georgia to Concord, North Carolina. The name of the team was changed to its' present title, Cunningham Motorsports. During that year the team ran ARCA speedways and a couple of truck races.

From 2001-2003, the team aligned with Labonte racing to run Justin Labonte in ARCA and Busch.

In 2004, the team ran a limited ARCA schedule for Chris Moore with support from Roger Penske.

In 2005, the team ran speedways with Mike Guerity and short tracks with various drivers from Dodge as part of their driver development program.

In 2006, the Dodge driver development program with Chase Miller, Scott Lagasse, Jr., Kevin Swindell and Josh Wise was the focus of Cunningham. The team ran 21 races.

For 2007, Cunningham will once again field some of the finest driver in the country as part of the Dodge Driver Development Program.
